Introduction
The Seychelles Media Commission is a body corporate established by the Seychelles Media Commission Act 2010, which was approved by the National Assembly of Seychelles on the 21st December 2010.
It consists of a Chairperson who is also the Chief Executive Officer and seven other members. Five of the members are appointed by the President of the Republic of Seychelles from candidates proposed by the Seychelles Media Association or such other body as may for the time represent journalists and media professionals, the National Assembly, the Judiciary, the Department of Information and the Liaison Unit for Non-Governmental Organisations (LUNGOS). The other two members and Chairperson, who are persons of good standing, are appointed by the President.
The object of the Commission is to preserve the freedom of the media, improve and maintain high standards of journalism in Seychelles, require publishers of newspapers, radio and television broadcasters, news agencies and journalists to respect human dignity, freedom from discrimination on any grounds, except as are necessary in a democratic society, and to maintain high standards of integrity and good taste.

Members of the Commission appointed on 27th January 2014
Members of the Seychelles Media Commission are appointed by the President of the Republic on a three-year term.
Mr. Ibrahim Afif - Chairperson & Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Afif was formerly the Managing Director of the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation and served as consultant to the Government in the establishment of the Seychelles Media Commission.
Dr. Marie-Reine Hoareau - Member
Dr. Hoareau is the Technical Adviser in the Education Department, and Secretary-General of the National Commission for UNESCO. She was nominated by the President of the Republic as a person of good standing.
Mr. Jean-Claude Matombé - Member
Mr. Matombé is the Communications Coordinator and Public Relations Manager at the National Council for Children, and nominated by the Liaison Unit for Non-Governmental Organisations (LUNGOS).
Mrs. Samantha Aglae - Member
Mrs. Aglae is an Attorney-at-Law and Notary Public and nominated by the Judiciary.
Mrs. Pauline Ferrari - Member
Mrs. Ferrari was nominated by the Department of Information.
Mrs. Tania Isaac - Member
Mrs. Isaac was nominated by the National Assembly of Seychelles
Mr. Rowny Vidot - Member
Mr. Vidot was nominated by the President of the Republic as a person of good standing.
Past Members of the Commission
The first Seychelles Media Commission was appointed by President James Alix Michel on 27th January 2011, following the approval of the Seychelles Media Commission Act 2010 by the National Assembly in December 2010.
